Lake County’s and Chicago’s civic infrastructure-turning community frustration into collective solution.
Cultivating Civic Pride. Proliferating Civic Action.
Here’s what we do:
We Listen
Whether it’s through our community canvassing, or our flagship program “is there a better way”, we take the time to listen to community members about what is most important to them. Listening is the first step to understanding.
We Create Dialogue
A large part of our whole mission is to foster effective discourse in the community. Away from the algorithmic manipulation of social media, we will once again learn how to speak with each other.
We Report
We believe going beyond endless cycles of conversation. We build reports, research, and content for the citizens of Lake County and Chicago to use in their efforts of making their communities better.
Our numbers tell a story…
These abysmally low voter turn out numbers should serve as a reminder of the importance of voting. Though it is a small part of civic engagement, voting in State and Local elections–not just National–is crucial part of our civic duty.
Visualize the numbers this way…
In Lake County, Illinois, in a room of 100 people, 16 of them choose who is in charge of running things.
In Chicago, Illinois, the story isn’t that much better. In a room of 100 people, 35 of them choose who is in charge.
This is a story of lack of competition. Part of the reason it feels like your vote may not matter, is there is very little competition for the candidates vying for positions of power.
We aim to change the story. We aim to surge voter participation. We aim to achieve our goals through an intensive campaign of civic education.
